Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples: Mission to Australia, James Anaya (2010)

The Special Rapporteur submitted this report on the situation of indigenous peoples in Australia in 2010. In paragraph 17, the Special Rapporteur notes the ‘detrimental intergenerational effects’ of past policies of forcible removal of Aboriginal children from their families, which include increased alcohol and drug abuse. Paragraph 34 of the report notes concern at the death rates of indigenous health-care workers in Australia, including drug rehabilitation workers.
