The Committee issued these concluding observations in 2014, after its consideration of Uzbekistan’s second periodic report. In paragraph 24, the Committee expresses concern about ‘the growing incidence of HIV/AIDS, particularly among injecting drug users’. The Committee urges Uzbekistan to strengthen its HIV/AIDS prevention efforts, including by resuming opioid substitution therapy, which Uzbekistan announced it would do during the dialogue.
