UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Concluding Observations on Spain (2012)

The Committee issued these concluding observations after its consideration of Spain’s fifth periodic report in 2012. In paragraph 15, the Committee notes concern at high levels of gender-based violence, and urges Spain to strengthen its efforts in this area and to ensure that prevention and care services reach particularly at-risk women, including those who are addicted to drugs. In paragraph 25, the Committee expresses concern at increasing drug and alcohol abuse in Spain, particularly among young people. The Committee recommends that Spain enhance its strategies for fighting drug use, develop healthcare and psychological support services, and establish detoxification treatment.
