UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Concluding Observations on Cambodia (2009)

The Committee issued these concluding observations in 2009, after reviewing Cambodia’s report on its implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. In paragraph 33, the Committee notes deep concern at high levels of mental health problems in Cambodia and the fact that a lack of mental health services often results in patients being incarcerated in prisons, compulsory drug treatment centres or other centres with poor services and instances of abuse. The Committee recommends Cambodia adopt a comprehensive mental health strategy.
