Report of the International Narcotics Control Board on the Availability of Internationally Controlled Drugs: Ensuring Adequate Access for Medical and Scientific Purposes (2011)

This article is an excerpt from the 2010 INCB Report on availability of internationally controlled drugs. In this article authors discuss activities of the Board aimed at ensuring the balance between adequate access to controlled drugs for medical and scientific purposes, and prevention of their diversion and abuse. The first part of the document provides information regarding the activities of the Board in regards to ensuring adequate availability of the drugs. Further, the document covers the issues of impediments to availability to opioid analgesics, higher levels of availability of controlled drugs for sound medical practice, and ensuring adequate availability in emerging situations. The documents concludes with recommendations by the Board to all concerned stakeholders.
