Report of the International Narcotics Control Board for 1995: Giving More Priority to Combating Money-Laundering (1996)

This article is an excerpt from the 1995 INCB Annual Report. In this article authors discuss the role of fighting money-laundering in the global war on drugs. The first part focuses on why fighting money -laundering is an effective tool to combat drub trafficking and organized crime. The second part briefly describes how money-laundering offenses are defined in the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988. Further, the third part tells about what international organizational framework is in place to fight against money-laundering and what actions are taken in this regards. The fourth and fifth parts focus solely on what is the role of the United Nations and what results were achieved for the period of publication of the Annual Report (1996). The article concludes with recommendations to concerned stakeholders.
