Report of the International Narcotics Control Board for 1998: International Control of Drugs, Past, Present and Future (1999)

This article is an excerpt from 1998 INCB Annual Report. In this article authors discuss the history of development and future prospectives of the international drug control system. The first part describes the situation with use of drugs before the establishment of the international drug control system. The second part tells about the establishment of the system and international cooperation in this regards. The third part focuses on the achievements of the international drug control regime, including efforts made to reduce the illicit drug supply, steps taken to ensure states' compliance with international drug conventions, and other. The fourth part addresses the challenges that the regime is likely to face in future, including development of new technologies and their effect on drug control. The article concludes with recommendations to concerned stakeholders.
