Report of the International Narcotics Control Board for 2001: Globalization and New Technologies, Challenges to Drug Law Enforcement in the Twenty-First Century (2002)

This article is an excerpt from 2001 INCB Annual Report. In this article authors focus on how development of new technologies challenges drug control and enforcement regimes. The first part of the article discusses the impact of globalisation and new technologies on drug-related crimes and criminal organisations. The second part discusses how new technologies impact government structures and capabilities designed to combat drug-related crime. The third and fourth parts aim to analyse what other potential challenges can arise with development of new technologies and how to address them. The article concludes with recommendations to the relevant stakeholders.
