Two members of the Purépecha indigenous people were arrested and charged under force with trafficking of cannabis.  The two individuals were not proficient Spanish speakers and were never provided an interpreter during the criminal trial for which they were charged and sentenced to long prison terms.  Their attempts for redress within the domestic system resulted in the denial of an amparo claim.  The Commission held the case was admissible for consideration.
