Yasa v Turkey, ECHR (1998)

The applicant is a Turkish citizen born in 1962, who lives in Diyarbakir. He complains on his own behalf and on behalf of his uncle, Hasim Yasa, who was a Turkish citizen born in 1956 and resident in Diyarbakir until he was shot dead on 14 June 1993. he applicant alleges that he was seriously injured and his uncle killed in attacks by agents of the State as part of a campaign against persons involved in the distribution of certain newspapers, that he was ill-treated by the police while in detention and that he has no access to court or effective remedy in respect of these matters. He invokes Articles 2, 3, 10, 6, 13, 14 and 18 of the Convention.
