Bizzotto v Greece, ECHR (1996)

The applicant, Mr. Bizzotto, was arrested in 1990 in transit at Athens Airport having 3,5 kilos of cannabis. The applicant was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment and a fine of two million drachmas. The domestic court considering his case has also ordered to place the applicant in appropriate facilities where he could receive treatment from his drug addiction. The applicant complains that he has never been put to any such institution and that his application on his transfer were ignored. The applicant relies on the article 5 of the Convention, i.e. the right to liberty and security of person.
