Amie and others v Bulgaria, ECHR (2013)

The case is considering appeal of Mr. Mahmud Abbas Amie and his wife Mrs. Rowida Mustafa Kamah, stateless persons and refugees. Mr. Amie was granted Bulgarian nationality on the basis that he was born in Bulgaria, and his spouse, Mrs. Kamah, was granted with refugee status. In 2006 Mr. Amie was detained on convictions of drug related crimes and involvement in terroristic activities and then released after three months. He was arrested again on the same convictions and was detained from 2008 to 2010. He complains about the unlawfulness of his detention pending his expulsion. Mr. Kamrah has complained that expulsion of her husband and a father of their children would amount to interference with their right to respect for family life.
