Research Handbook on International Drug Policy edited by David R Bewley-Taylor and Khalid Tinasti

This pioneering Research Handbook brings together contributions from a variety of researchers and practitioners to provide a global overview of the shifting dynamics of drug policy. Aimed at researchers and students interested in drug policy, as well as policy-makers and practitioners at different levels of governance, the Research Handbook on International Drug Policy provides a much-needed comparative approach and will prove to be an essential resource for navigating the difficulties surrounding drug policy and control.

Chapter 13 Drug Control and Human Rights: Parallel Universes, Universal Parallels by Julie Hannah and Rick Lines.

Within the United Nations the regimes of Drug Control and of Human Rights have evolved in isolation from one another.  In practise the UN drug control bodies in Vienna have shown little interest in Human Rights and the UN Human Rights bodies in Geneva have shown little interest in drug control. This chapter provides a ten year comparative qualitative assessment on the official work of UN bodies on human rights and drug policy. It offers a unique insight into how global governance mechanisms currently engage on the issue and offers a more unified approach for policymakers, advocates and scholars to interrogate this critical human rights debate moving forward.
