UN Experts Urge the Philippines to Stop Unlawful Killings of People Suspected of Drug-Related Offences (August 2016)

This statement was published by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in August 2016. The special rapporteur on Summary executions, Agnes Callamard, stress that the Philippines cannot deviate from their international legal obligations to tackle the countries drug issues. 

The special rapporteur on the right to health, Dainius Puras, adds to this statement by saying that the measures put in place to tackle the Philippines drug problem needs to respect the human rights of each person. The rapporteurs also point to the fact that President Duterte had publicly sanctioned vigilante justice, and call on the authorities to condemn such actions.
