UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Concluding Observations on Guyana (2013)

The Committee issued these concluding observations in 2013 after its consideration of the periodic reports of Guyana.  The Committee is concerned at the high rates of alcohol, tobacco and drug consumption among adolescents in the State party. It recommends addressing this issue by providing children with information and life-skills education on preventing substance use and developing accessible and youth-friendly drug-dependence treatment and harm-reduction services (paragraphs 49& 50).
