Report of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions: Mission to India, Christof Heyns (2013)

This report contains the findings and recommendations of the Special Rapporteur on his mission to India. The Special Rapporteur is concerned that the death penalty may still be imposed in India, although a de facto moratorium on executions had been in place since 2004. Moreover, this penalty is imposed also for drug-related offences, which do not fall under the scope of 'the most serious crime'.

He concludes that India should consider placing a moratorium on the death penalty in accordance with General Assembly resolutions with a view to abolishing it.
