Report of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention: Mission to Australia (2002)

This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Working Group on its mission to Australia. It raises concerns regarding the mandatory detention of unauthorized arrivals in Australia.  It is also noted that asylum-seekers are transferred from detention centers to State prisons if, among other reasons, they have a history of drug offences, even if they have not been criminally charged.
