Report by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people, James Anaya (2010)

The Special Rapporteur notes that the construction of the hydroelectric dam in Brazil which would lead to an increased population in the area would affect the indigenous people and could lead to ‘an upsurge of sexually transmitted diseases, alcoholism and drug use and availability in the area.’ The report also mentions the situations faced by Colombia and Venezuela in relation to drugs trafficking.
