Report of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples: Extractive industries operating within or near indigenous territories, James Anaya (2011)

Part 2 of the report analyzes the impact of extractive industries on indigenous people, following ‘the distribution of a questionnaire’ on the issue to governments, indigenous people, corporations, and civil society. When discussing non-indigenous migration into indigenous territories, the report notes that ‘In Colombia, the arrival of extractive industries in indigenous areas has reportedly triggered the infiltration of indigenous territories by drug traffickers and guerrillas, together with the militarization of those territories.’
