UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Consideration of the Report of the Federal Republic of Germany (1987)

Date: 20 March 1987

In 1987, the Committee considered the second periodic report of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) on articles 10-12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. During the session, the Committee requested information on the country’s efforts ‘to combat the threat of drug addiction to which young people were so vulnerable’ (paragraph 239). The representative of the Federal Republic of Germany recognized that drug addiction was a complex, global phenomenon and that the government ‘was making every effort to cope with the problem’ (paragraph 257).
