Date: 25 March 2015

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights issued these concluding observations in March 2015 following the combined second and third periodic reports of Tajikistan. The Committee acknowledges the ratification of various human rights treaties, as well as the state's effort to promote the implementation of economic, social and cultural rights.

These concluding observations also include a series of subjects of concern and recommendations. In paragraph 32 the Committee noted that HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis are prevalent amongst people who use inject drugs, and recommend that the State reinforce the already existing needle exchange programme.

In paragraph 33 the Committee raises its concern for the continuing trafficking of narcotic drugs occurring within the State, and recommend that the State take effective measures to combat the inflow and transit of drugs. The Committee also recommend that the State adopt measures that look to prevent drug abuse, reduce harm associated with drug use, and provide adequate treatment and rehabilitation for drug users.
