Statement by the International Lesbian and Gay Association Joined by, International Service for Human Rights
Prepared in consultation with The Social, Health and Empowerment Feminist Collective of Transgender Women of Africa
This intervention was delivered during the Human Rights Council high level panel session on the human rights impact of drug policy in September 2015. Importantly, this statement details the various ways in which drug policy impacts the lives of trans women across the globe with particular attention to the lived experiences of trans women in sub-Saharan Africa. The clear gaps in research and advocacy present a powerful call to devote more resources and attention to this under-examined human rights issue.
