Joint report of the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture and the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions: Visit to the Republic of Colombia (1995)

This joint report contains the findings and recommendations of the two Special Rapporteurs on their mission to Colombia. They note the high level of violence and impunity within the country, expressing concerns about various issues, such as:

the grave abuses committed by armed insurgents and armed groups at the service of drug traffickers, which use and finance also the paramilitary groups to preserve their economic interests
the social cleansing phenomenon, whose targets are not only the criminals but also prostitutes, homosexuals, beggars, drug consumers and street children.

The Special Rapporteurs urge all the parties to the armed conflict to negotiate a peaceful solution to this conflict in order to improve the human rights situation in Colombia.
