Communications report of the Special Rapporteur on the right to health: Haiti, Anand Grover (2013)

Date: 22 August 2013

The report notes the request for an extension of the transitional period for least developed countries made by the Haiti to the WTO Council for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Council). Without the extension, Haiti would be required to enforce strict intellectual property laws which consequently will lead to higher priced medicines because of the lack of adequate infrastructure and strong economy. This would affect the right of everyone to access to essential medicines.
