Communications Report of the Special Rapporteur on the Right of Everyone to the Enjoyment of the Highest attainable Standard of Physical and Mental Health: Mauritius, Dainius Puras (August 2015)

The communication report was published by the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights in August 2015. The Special Rapporteur raises his concern to the government of Mauritius of the reduction of harm reduction services for people who use drugs.

The Special Rapporteur points to the reduced availability of opioid substitution therapy which has resulted in long waiting list, as well as the position of the distribution vehicles deters patients from participating in OST as they fear prosecution. Furthermore, the report sets out a list of clarifying points and culminates in with the Special Rapporteur urging the Government to adopt effective measures to prevent further phasing out of harm-reduction services.
